Another Friday, another quick tip! This video’s subject: thumbnails.
While videos are often used as a first impression for a business, a thumbnail is a first impression for the video. Ideally, a good thumbnail will give the viewer a general idea of the type of content they’re about to watch. It should be visually engaging, self explanatory, and also leave some room for curiosity. That way, people will want to click and watch the video.
Most platforms will auto-generate a thumbnail from the video. However, these are at random, and are usually not ideal. You can upload your own image, or you can choose from the video. In both of these cases, you have more control over what the audience sees, and make sure it fits the story you want to tell.
Bottom line: Having a good thumbnail is a critical first impression for your audience to engage with your content.
